in children. In infants and young children, brain tumors are the second
most common form of cancer, after leukemia. Brain Tumors have surpassed even Leukemia and replaced it as the leading cause of cancer death in children The incidence of brain tumors in children,
now at 3.6 for each 100,000 children, has risen nearly 25 percent over
the last decade, says the National Cancer Institute. I am one of many caregivers and loved ones of people who suffer from brain tumors. Whether it spreads (malignant) or returns (benign but recurring like my son's), every battle takes it's toll on the patients and adds further devastation to the body and spirit of most. It's effects and those of the corrective procedures often create life threatening results that patients will battle as long as they live. The purpose of this site is to help create Brain Tumor Awareness. This is important because the lack of understanding and awareness about Brain Tumors has created a world, including some doctors that are not aware of it's seriousness and scope. . I believe that if the readers knew the truths we have learned about Brain Tumors, they would be concerned whether they knew a patient or not. I believe that they would help spread Brain Tumor Awareness with the same fervor that the world was made more aware of breast cancer, diabetes, prostate cancer and other serious disorders. Please read and learn more about our challenges.
Pediatric brain tumors are on the rise and no one seems to notice or care
except those of us who sit helplessly and watch the devastation and loss
of our loved ones. While my son's tumor is a rare pediatric tumor, it has
opened my eyes to the lack of awareness about all tumors. They are each
just another beast with a different name, but it's intent is the same.
Learn about our children and loved ones. Help the world see us and our
need for attention from those who research and heal. |
